Most dreams are buried alive and this is the reason why …

"Consistency is the DNA of mastery"
Not that I am a sea bear, but it is pretty much obvious, that trying to sail across the ocean whilst constantly changing your direction isn’t going to take you somewhere further. At least you never will get to any type of destination, since it is not clear. Of course, you have to windward and therefore regularly adapt your short-term direction to make progress, but you don’t change the final target.
So, first step – Find your destination, second step - stick to it! But HOW on earth are we managing that second step? Let's dive deeper into it ...

Many people out there have targets they want to aim for in their mind, but they keep changing them whenever they don’t feel pleasant to them anymore.

Having a clearly defined target can guide you in difficult situations. Those situations where you might not know exactly where to go, what to do or where to invest your energy at all. Knowing your target will guide you almost automatically if you decide to move towards it. Constantly focusing on one target will align your whole system and help let your energy work 100% into the desired direction which will lead to the required actions in the end.
So, what is it then, that makes people stay inconsistent with aiming for what they desire … ?
Is it true that they are just lacking willpower?
Is it true that they just don’t want to reach their goals bad enough?

Today I want to introduce you to some thoughts around what might be the biggest underlying reason for people not being able to pursue their goals on a consistent basis.
First, we have to know that everyone of us has a baseline. A baseline which is the accumulation of all thoughts, emotions and impressions that we have collected throughout our life. We often times define ourselves as the things we have experienced or achieved so far. Therefore, the body always checks if we follow our identity and tries to maintain the so called our homeostatic state. Within this state everything feels common and we have a quite well understanding of who we are and life is as predictable as it can get (although we have to be aware that it is NEVER predictable at all!!)
If we like what we get that’s a different kettle of fish, but just keep that fact in mind for now.
Let us now assume we set ourselves a goal. It might be a high hard goal, difficult to achieve and hunting it down requires huge amounts of effort to get there. One of those goals, that if achieved, people tend to say they’ve finally really overcome their own self. They’ve outgrown themselves. Outgrowing ourselves implicates also stop constantly repeating our old actions, since only actions finally take us where we want to be.
Even though so many people are trying to make such achievements happen, it is more often times that the biggest dreams are buried alive due to a lack of inconsistency.
So where does the inconsistency finally come from? What I see from working with my clients is, that inconsistency is not a lack of discipline or willpower in the first place. It is a lack of discipline and willpower as a consequence of not having the right approach to follow the road to success.
"Don't be afraid of failure, this is the way to succeed!" LeBron James
What do I mean by that?
Our homeostatic state, as explained earlier, is what makes us feel safe. Safety or certainty is a huge desire and one of the basic human needs. In order to achieve that we subconsciously try to make sure, that there are not too many disturbances within our system of life and therefore we always feel drawn to our baseline.
If we now want to be more consistent towards our goals with extraordinary results, we have to find out how to do the ordinary things with an extraordinary consistency.
