Like famous Bruce Lee said it once: “Be Water, My Friend. Empty your mind. Be formless, shapeless, like water. You put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle, it becomes the bottle. You put it into a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Now water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend!”
That is mostly how a living life in a state of FLOW feels like and also describes its benefits. Any doubts on that? Have you ever experienced FLOW in your life? If yes, then you know exactly why the purpose of my life is to help people finding their FLOW. If not, then you better listen carefully and want to get some insights in how to get there.
The term "flow" refers to a state of mind in which people feel completely immersed in an activity, and lose track of time. It's often associated with creative pursuits, such as writing, painting, music, sports, and other hobbies.

Just recently I realised that I did not yet text a lot about the skill of entering the FLOW-State, but due to that fact, I am going to fix this issue as soon as possible - Which always is NOW!! ;-)
For today let us start with a definition of FLOW. What is it then?
Long time ago, now famous psychologist Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi asked himself the question: What makes life worth living and finally after decades of research on optimal experiences he came up with his answer: FLOW.
It’s as easy as that, right? Okay, so you probably still don’t know what FLOW actually is.
So, to define it technically, FLOW is the mental state in which a person is engaged in an activity where they are fully immersed with a feeling of energised focus, involvement, and success in the process of the activity.
Still no clue?
Okay the shortest and probably most practicable definition I can provide is, that FLOW is just that state of mind, where you can effortlessly perform at your best. How does that sound to you?
Whilst just today reading again into Steven Kotler’s “The art of impossible”, I stumbled across a very interesting point he was making. For decades science wanted to make us believe that we only use around 10% of our brain when we are living our daily life under normal conditions. Back in the days science would explain us that entering the FLOW state helps us magically turn on the full spectrum of available resources. This idea indeed sounded logically and that was the reason it stayed around for a pretty long time. The truth appears to be surprisingly completely different.
As recent research backed up by brain scans showed us that actually the opposite is true. It is just not correct, that people need to turn on their extra boost. Just switch into second gear or something. What is true, is that we have to get rid of stuff that is holding us back. All the fears, doubts and worries that don’t let us trusting our skills and fully develop our potential.
Isn’t that an incredible finding? Sounds like everything is already within us, right?

Hmmmm, yes and no. Would be great if it would be that easy, but entering the FLOW state was earlier meant to be caused by 9 different factors. Up to now science has already detected 22 different factors that are responsible for experiencing this beautiful feeling. One of them f.e. is finding the right balance between skills and challenge as you can see on the little graph on the right. Within the next weeks I will go into way more detail about the components of FLOW and how you can make sure they work for you in the right manner!
FindYourFlow is a community to help each other find our individual ways to enter this state. So please let us know in the comments below and share what your biggest FLOW-experience was so far.
Never forget about, that no matter what you do, make sure you have fun!
Lots of love,
Wilhelm
